| Joel M. Levy was born June 22, 1958, in Miami Beach, Florida. His parents were in the hotel business and would take the family to many shows at the hotels where he got the entertainment bug. Joel graduated from the prestigious Pinecrest School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1976. He then decided to go west for college and attended Pepperdine University in Southern California, the entertainment capital of the world. He would frequent the many music clubs and venues in Los Angeles to hear and see the latest bands in the land. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Pepperdine in 1980. Joel moved back to South Florida to make his mark in the entertainment field there. His passion for the industry continued by managing some local artists and producing songs for them. In 1984, he promoted some concerts in the Southeastern United States. In 1985, a friend asked Joel if he wanted to open up a recording studio in Miami with some new ideas and unique equipment. A financial institution he visited suggested meeting with Mack Emerman of Criteria Recording Studios to see if there was any common interest in working together. There was instant chemistry, and Joel became Financial Manager of the studio until 1988 when he purchased the studio, and became Vice President. He became President several years later after Mack retired. Joel became a member of NARAS and was an original governor for the Florida Branch starting in 1995. In 1999, Joel sold the studio to The Hit Factory of New York and stayed on during the transition. Joel lives in Davie, Florida, with his wife and two children. |
